4th Grade

welcome to 4th

4th grade team
Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! We are delighted to be your child’s teacher and look forward to an exciting year of learning. We are eager to see what this year has in store for all of us!

Your child is very important to us, and we look forward to working with each of you to ensure your child’s success this year. In addition to the curriculum we will be teaching this year, we strive to instill in all our students the desire to learn and be the best they can be. Because fourth grade students are expected to be independent, your child will be responsible for making decisions regarding their work and efforts. To support these lessons, it is important for them to see that learning doesn’t stop once they leave school.

Your job as a parent is also important. You are the greatest teacher they will ever have. Children need to read, and be read to every night. Writing together and working on math is just as important. I know that everyone leads busy lives, but it is important for your child to receive that little extra bit that you can provide at home.

This year we will be taking on a new journey in fourth grade with departmentalizing our students. They will have an opportunity to have 2 teachers. One teacher will be teaching Math, Science, and Social Studies to them. The other will be teaching Reading and Language Arts. If you have any questions about the transition, please do not hesitate to ask!

It is also very important that children know their multiplication facts by fourth grade; therefore, it would be very helpful if your child made flashcards and practiced the number families that are problematic for them. Please watch for nightly homework as well as working on the computer completing lessons on iReady in Math and Reading nightly. Students are responsible for writing down their assignments in their agendas. You can also view your child’s progress on progressbook.ocps.net. (Sign on information will be coming soon)

During the summer:
-Read Sunshine State books for the year 2018-2019 –They can get them from the public library
- Visit the public library and join their summer program
- Go on I –Ready for reading using their Launchpad access
- Read any book for fun!!!

We welcome your questions, comments, or concerns throughout the year. We look forward to a fun and educational year!

Sincerely,
The Fourth Grade Team
