3rd Grade

welcome to 3rd grade

Welcome to 3rd Grade!  Third grade is an exciting time for students to develop their reading comprehension and math problem solving skills. This is a year of important transitions as well as gaining new skills. All students will be required to carry a binder to and from school. The binder will assist students with organization of class materials. Our overall focus is building independence and accountability. The expectations are high and we are confident that your child will work rigorously to achieve the most from third grade.

These are recommendations of things to practice over the summer.

  • Addition and Subtraction Facts- it is very important that children know all addition and subtraction facts. Please practice with your child using flash cards.  If your child knows all addition and subtraction facts, it is highly recommended that your child starts learning multiplication facts of 0s, 1s, 2s, and 3s.
  • READ, READ, READ! - It is important that all students read over the summer. Taking your child to the public library to check out books is a great idea.
  • WRITE, WRITE, WRITE! - The students will be writing a lot in third grade. We would like for all students to practice their writing by keeping a summer journal and write about important summer events.

We look forward to creating a partnership between school and families to ensure your third grader has a successful year! As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:

1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience

2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers

3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills

4) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life

5) Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject

Sincerely,
The Third Grade Teachers
