1st grade

Welcome to first grade

1st grade team
Greetings,

Congratulations! And Welcome to another school year, now your child will be moving onto first grade.  We would like to welcome you to the First-Grade Team (Parents – Students – Teachers).

You will notice that your child will be expected to be more independent and responsible for his/her own learning in first grade. Listed below are things your child should be able to do the first day of 1st grade:

  • Log onto the computer with their username and password which must be memorized over the summer if your child doesn’t know it already.  Username:  student number and password: YYYYMMDD (four-digit year of birth, two-digit month of birth, and two-digit date of birth).
  • Know how to write and spell their first name and last name.
  • Copy assignments and weekly spelling words into their agenda.
  • Sit and listen to a story being read aloud for at least 20 minutes.
  • Tie their own shoelaces.
  • Social skills which include sitting and eating lunch in the cafeteria. Also, listening and following directions given by the adults in charge.
  • Academic skills which include knowing basic skills math facts – adding and subtracting with fluency to 10. Also, knowing the sight words from the word list from the link below.

Sincerely,

First Grade Teachers
